Over summer I have mainly just been working at The Works Skatepark as general staff but also filming any events and comps or just general videos that I got asked to do but either my manager or any customers using the facilities. You can watch any of those videos by clicking here.
In this blog post I will be reflecting on my favourite videos I have made over the summer, the challenges and enjoyment I got out of making them.
So first off making the videos for The Works, my part time job. Iv made a few videos over the summer for the skatepark but i'm just going to talk about 2 of my main favourite videos iv made. The first one being 'The Works | Barney Stonelake', this video took almost all summer to complete as Barney a friend from work and a team rider for The Works wanted a really good video making not just one that took one session riding as he wanted to send it to a few BMX companies to attempt to get sponsored. I Filmed it with my own camcorder a Sony Handycam and edited it on Final Cut Pro X. Once the edit was finished and uploaded to MPORA (an extreme sports video site) it almost went viral getting over 1,000 views in less than a night. I really enjoyed filming and editing it but the only thing I would change would be having it all more planned out in what days we were filming and how long for etc.
The other video from work I really enjoyed filming was actually filmed just at the end of the summer when I loaned a XD Cam out from uni for a week. 'The Works | Alex Shepherd' is my favourite video iv made in a long while mainly because it was filmed with a Sony EX1 XD Cam which are fantastic camera and I wish I actually owned one! This video was filmed in a single session one evening at work while it was a quiet night, it features Alex Shepherd who is also a team rider for The Works Skatepark. I enjoyed filming this video because we had a good laugh doing it, everything went smoothly and a lot of people have given me good feedback about it, the only thing I would improve is the editing and colour correction as I feel its about purple or red in some clips, the lighting in the skatepark isn't that great though which didn't really help! Overall I am pleased with both of these videos.
