My Extended Piece of Writing

For my extended piece of writing I think I want to write something about YouTube and how it is having some sort of an effect on popular culture. Iv decided to pick YouTube as something to write about because I use it and enjoy watching videos on it a lot! Since the beginning of the summer I have become a regular viewers of some popular YouTubers such as CTFxC, ShayTards, FunForLouis and many more. These type of YouTubers are called 'vloggers', a 'vlogger' is someone who video blogs their lives weather  it be everyday or main key events in their lives. Im not sure if it is an addiction that I have to YouTube or what it is really but I just enjoy seeing what other people get up to in their day to day lives around the world and I like the feelings it/they can cause. For example if I am having a rubbish day I know I can go watch either a most recent video or a past video from the above YouTubers and it will brighten up my day.

After talking to my tutors and telling them that I wanted to do my extended piece of writing on YouTube they where very enthusiastic and excited to see what I make of it. They told me that it was a good subject to pic because it is such a wide subject and I could take it in any which way.

I am excited about writing the essay and I am already looking at some very interesting books on the subject. I am yet to receive any response from YouTubers about possibly having a Skype interview with them so I can get their opinions on YouTube.

Below is my proposal from I did before the beginning of the summer:

SUBJECTS OF CONTEXTUAL RESEARCH ALREADY UNDERTAKEN

Level 4:
How important are film and game opening title sequences?
Would audiences be able to understand what they were about to engage with without them?

Level 5:
With specific reference to Facebook, how are social networking sites affecting the formation of identify in contemporary society?

AIM AND/OR OBJECTIVE OF YOUR PROPOSED C.O.P.3 PROJECT
YouTube Cultures? The Comunities inside YouTube?

1.     What research needs to be undertaken into the general and specific contexts of your practice?
  • Need to try get in contact with some ‘YouTubers’ themselves:
1.     ShayTards
2.     FunForLouis
3.     JacksGap etc.
  • Find some books on the internet and how its changed/formed our lives so far and how it may in the future.

2.     What approach(es) will you take  and what processes, methods, materials and  tools  are to be involved in research into your practice?
  • I will look at a range of different ‘vloggers’ on YouTube, try get in contact with them.
  • Possible have Skype interviews with them or meet them for a coffee somewhere.
  • I will try watch documentaries on Youtubers to get a sense of them and their lifestyles
  • I will use books and keep notes on things iv found
  • I will create a Vlog for my own YouTube channel talking about what I have found out and my thoughts on it.
  • I will find articles online or in news papers talking about the climb of YouTube.
3.   What preparation or investigations do you need to undertake for your creative practice to take place?
  • I need to script a formal email that I will send to YouTubers and possibly YouTube themselves so I sound professional and so they will understand completely and fully what it is that I am aiming to achieve for my CoP3.
  • I will have enough space available on my hard drive for me to store my research and development efficiently and successfully while remembering to back up all the time.
4.     What research do you need to undertake regarding who your creativity is for?
·       I will try find some research online about what the average age of viewers watch YouTube vloggers and aim to write my essay and create my practical to suit that audience.
·       For my practice (my vlog) I will also look at editing styles, music/soundtracks and other memes of editing to make my vlog good enough.
